Failing ‘Bio’

David Eick, co-executive producer of both the sublime “Battlestar Galactica” and the significantly less sublime “Bionic Woman,” has confirmed that the latter is officially dead. No real surprise here; people have been sounding the death knell since the beginning of the writer’s strike, but NBC has still yet to confirm it, so this is as close as we’ve gotten to “official word.”
As I noted in this way-too-long post on my prior blog, “BW” was probably the show I was most excited about going into fall 2007. Given that it was someone heavily involved with a great revival of one ’70s sci-fi show, what was stopping lightning from striking twice? Turns out: Lots of things.
When “Bionic Woman” started, a lot of fans were wondering about the role Katee Sackhoff was to play, and if it would interfere with her “BSG” schedule. Obviously that turned out to not be much of a problem, but it’s also kind of a drag - since “BSG” is ending after this season, the speculation was that Sackhoff - one of the brightspots of “BW” - would move on to a regular slot on that show. This leaves her without a show when “BSG” ends, so here’s hoping she lands another quality role. And probably not a reimagining of a ’70s sci-fi series co-executive produced by David Eick.
