I just now got to watching the 90-minute “Extras” series finale which premiered on HBO on Sunday (that’s right, premiered - it doesn’t air on the BBC until Dec. 27! In your face, British people!). In keeping with the equally excellent and Gervaistastic “The Office” series finale, which also aired as a 90-minute “Christmas special” (an old school British TV tradition) it was hilarious, heartbreakingly sad, yet ultimately uplifting, an all-too rare dramatic hat trick. Perhaps I was just starved for some quality new scripted programming, but it was some of the best consecutive 90-minutes I’ve seen of any type of live action fiction. And oh yeah, it had a Smiths song , too. Never hurts.
