‘Knight Rider’ makes a huge mistake

Thursday, February 7th, 2008 by Albert Ching

knightrider1.jpg The only possible reason I could think for anyone to watch a “Knight Rider” TV movie is gone.

Will Arnett (Gob from “Arrested Development”), has dropped out as the voice of KITT because the new KITT car is a Ford Mustang, and he’s loyal to GM, since for years he’s done voiceover work for GMC trucks. Really, that’s the reason.

He’s being replaced by Val Kilmer, who hopefully will be doing his Jim Morrison voice from “The Doors.” William Daniels is snubbed again.

The “Knight Rider” TV movie is scheduled to premiere on Feb. 17, so this is rather late in the game for such a major shakeup. The project is NBC’s latest attempt at reimagining a beloved/cheesy property, and a “backdoor pilot” (if this does well, they’ll probably greenlight a series, glossing over the fact that no one liked “Bionic Woman”). It stars Justin Bruening (pictured) as Mike Tracer, and reportedly will feature a cameo from original “Knight Rider” star/reality series judge/troubled hamburger eater David Hasselhoff.
