Sometimes the world does, indeed, look perfect
Thursday, February 7th, 2008 by Albert ChingThe existence of products such as “Silk Stalkings: The Complete Fifth Season” might lead you to believe that every show that has ever aired is available on DVD. Sadly, this is not so. Where’s “The Wonder Years”? MTV’s “The State”? ABC “TGIF ” fare like “Step By Step” and “Family Matters”?
Luckily, this week the Digital Versatile Disc community has remedied a grave error and soothed many hungry fans with these six words: “Perfect Strangers” is now on DVD .
Finally! We can relive the first two seasons of madcap adventures with stuffshirt American Larry Appleton (Mark Linn-Baker, who shares a birthday with me and is therefore even more awesome than you might think) and his Meeposian cousin Balki Bartokomous (Bronson Pinchot). It’s like “The Odd Couple” for the yuppie generation! Cultures? Clashed. Knees? Slapped. Sides? Split. Sadly, the DVDs have just about no extras, other than a “Dance of Joy” featurette, which admittedly sounds awesome.
The thing that I remember most clearly about “Perfect Strangers” is how it was one of those ’80s sitcoms that were quite goofy, but had a theme song with incredibly misplaced serious lyrics. “No matter what the odds are this time, nothing’s gonna stand in my way.” What the heck did that have to do with the show?
